AQL has been engaged to complete ongoing maintenance within Irelands prestigious GAA stadium, Croke Park Stadium, Dublin. The works differ from crack injection to joint sealing, from waterproof membranes to steel protection solutions. AQL is a one stop shop for all concrete repairs and waterproofing solutions.

Scope of works

AQL carry out concrete repairs and waterproofing solutions within the structure, including; Crack Injection- AQL use crack injection as a solution within the stadium to stop water ingress in cracks and joints that are leaking. Joint Sealing- Throughout the stadium, multiple difference joint sealing methods are used including mastic joints and rubber bandage system depending on the location and level of movement. Concrete Repairs- Multiple different concrete repair solutions have been implemented throughout the stadium, to restore and protect this complex structure. Waterproof Coatings/ Membranes- Numerous areas have been prepared and waterproof coatings/ membranes have been applied to stop leaks throughout the stadium. Steel Protection- AQL design, build and install non-slip steel protection to the repairs in the stadium to allow them to be unharmed from the heavy traffic they experience on match days and concerts.

Challenges

Access- Due to the nature of the structure, it makes access more complicated. AQL offer access solutions for all situations including MEWPs and methods to allow operatives to work at heights using safe methods. Water Ingress- Water ingress into electrical rooms and corporate areas were a big issue. Crack injection and joint sealing eliminates this and stops water from penetrating inside. Harsh Traffic- Due to the foot traffic and vehicle traffic the stadium experiences it makes for harsh wearing. AQL therefore installs steel protection plates and mechanically fixes them to protect the repairs.

Results

No Water Ingress- The roof, steps and concrete decks are now watertight, not allowing any water to enter inside. All cracks are also sealed, not allowing any water ingress through these areas. One Stop Shop- By choosing AQL, it saves the client from dealing with multiple contractors to do various jobs. Structural Longevity: The repairs and protective coatings significantly enhanced the lifespan of the sports stadium, ensuring long-term durability.
